The Biodiversity & Ecosystem eScience Conference, BEeS2026, is the largest annual event organised by LifeWatch ERIC, the leading European e-Infrastructure supporting research on biodiversity and ecosystems. The conference brings together more than 200 researchers, policymakers, and experts to discuss current threats and challenges to biodiversity and ecosystem conservation from an eScience perspective.
During this four-day event, participants are invited to take part in BioBEeS, a bioblitz designed to explore and document the biodiversity surrounding the host city. The activity is fully supported by the LifeWatch Italy Citizen Science Platform, showcasing its capabilities while promoting its use within the wider community.

How to Join

1. Sign in to the Web App

Or create a new account using your full name (name and surname).

2. Create a New Observation

Open the New Observation form in the Web App.

3. Record Your Observation

Add: the location (coordinates are captured automatically or can be entered manually);

your best guess of the species;

a photograph of the organism.

4. Submit Your Observation

Check the information and submit your record.

5. Repeat!

The more observations you submit, the more biodiversity data you will help collect.

The challenge runs throughout the conference. Win a special LifeWatch ERIC T-shirt by recording the highest number of different species, or being the first participant to photograph all five iconic species featured in the challenge:

The nutria Myocastor coypus, the collared dove Streptopelia decaocto, the swift Apus apus, the ash tree Fraxinus sp., and the Balkanian gecko Mediodactylus kotschyi.
